Medical care, also called skilled care, requires oversight by a physician and consists of things like physical therapy, wound care, medical administration, giving shots or vaccinations. Skilled care is provided to help people get better.

Non-medical care is for people who need long-term assistance. These services are sometimes called “custodial care.” This means that the services will generally be provided indefinitely. Non-medical home care consists of assisting people with activities of daily living (ADLs) such as:

  • Bathing
  • Oral care
  • Toileting
  • Feeding
  • Ambulation (walking)
